In 1283 King Edward I decided to expand his domain into West Wales and build a fortification of castles named the ‘’Iron Ring’’ with the purpose of protecting the area, these are Harlech Castle, Castle of Beaumaris, Caernarfon and Conwy Castle.
Gwynedd has some beautiful beaches with sandy beaches, the best recommended to visit and most popular ones are Whistling Sands Beach, Llandanwg Beach, Barmouth Beach and Aberdyfi Beach.
The beaches vary from long stretches of sandy beaches, to some with secret coves and smaller sandy beaches and even longer pebbly beaches backed by banks of boulder clay with a colourful variety of pebbles found on the shores.
